Cape Cornwall School is an academy providing high quality education for students aged 11-16 from St Just, Cornwall and its surrounding villages. Cape Cornwall is a very popular school locally and is highly regarded for its academic achievement, wider opportunities and the individual care it offers to young people.
Both students and staff speak with immense pride about the place of the school in the community and it is very obvious just how important Cape is to everyone. Many of our parents and grandparents attended Cape themselves and as a result, are fiercely loyal to the school. The size of Cape Cornwall School is its strength: every student is known personally by all our staff resulting in brilliant relationships between staff and students. Students are happy and parents know that their children will be joining a strong, positive, caring community where everyone can thrive. Learning, in all its forms, is at the centre of everything and we help students to develop as happy, well-rounded individuals who always strive to do their best.
At Cape, we aim to provide the highest standards of education for all students. Our vision is for our school quite simply to be a beacon of excellence where children thrive and are nurtured to achieve their full potential in line with our school values: dream, believe, persevere and achieve. Students study a broad and balanced curriculum that has been carefully sequenced to help them acquire the knowledge and skills that will help them progress to the next stage of their education and then on into adulthood. There is also a wide range of extra-curricular activities including ‘Be Inspired’, a bespoke programme where students sign up for activities that broaden their experience and allow them to do something ‘a little different’, supporting their personal development.
Every child matters greatly at Cape Cornwall and we seek to ensure all students succeed across all areas of school life whatever their barriers or previous academic attainment. Students are encouraged to try new ideas, not to be afraid of failure and to build resilience. Cape Cornwall is also home to ‘Kites’ an Area Resource Base’ (ARB) for students with significant additional needs. Our Kites students study a bespoke curriculum, often spending time in mainstream lessons as well as in the specialist provision offered within the ARB.
Children who come to Cape Cornwall will develop creatively, intellectually and broaden their horizons. We promote traditional values of respect, good manners and hard work harnessing these within an education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of the future. We recognise that qualifications are the keys to doors which open further opportunities and we prepare students well to ensure success.
At Cape, we seek to promote a genuine partnership between home and school based on mutual trust and respect. Our Cape Cornwall School website and prospectus can only provide a snapshot of the vibrant and varied life of the school, so please feel free to arrange a visit in order to see our school in action.
